Moving from Excel to an ERP: mistakes to avoid

Excel is a good tool, until it becomes the system your whole company depends on. When it is time to move, these are the mistakes we see most often.

1. Copying the spreadsheet instead of the process

A new system is a chance to remove steps that exist only because of the old sheet. Move the process, not the layout of the file.

2. Importing dirty data

Duplicate customers, items with three names, wrong quantities. Clean the data before you import it. Fixing it afterward costs far more.

3. No owner on the company side

Someone inside the company must own decisions about how things work. Without that person, every question waits.

4. Training only at the end

People accept a system they understood early. Involve the team during setup and train in small sessions, not one long day before launch.

5. Trying to switch everything at once

Phase the move. Run the old and new in parallel for a short, defined period if needed, then close the old sheets for good.
